Hello families of Belfast!

I am very excited to be joining the Belfast Grade 1/2 teaching team for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year.  My previous experience teaching Grade 5/6 and subbing frequently in the school have allowed me to witness first-hand this incredible learning community in action.

In my five years of teaching I have worked with children of all ages.  I also teach improvisational theatre to adults at the Calgary Improv School.  Most recently, I spent last year working as a Music Teacher and Reading Specialist in a French Immersion (K-3) setting at Hidden Valley School (Northwest Calgary).

I believe sincerely that every student in this school has an incredible and powerful mind.  Our role as important adults in their lives is to guide them not only to success but also to failure, which is life’s most important learning tool.  Our class this year will emphasize joyful reading and writing, a deep understanding of the relationships underlying numbers, and my personal passion of music.  I can’t wait to grow and learn alongside your children!

Please do not hesitate to contact me with concerns about your child’s needs or questions about our classroom topics.  My email is chford@cbe.ab.ca and I do my best to respond promptly during normal working hours.

Hello families,

We had such a busy week in room 5. Our annual Halloween Parade was awesome. Thank you to all of the parents who were able to make it. The kids were so excited and felt so special.

Our classroom website has been updated with some new photos.

Just another reminder that we do go outside when it is warmer than -20 degrees (including wind chill). There were a lot of kids missing appropriate outdoor clothing. We do have extra just in case someone has forgotten their hats, mittens or snow pants. Unfortunately this week, so many weren’t equipped that we actually ran out of extras. If finances are a barrier for you, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We are more than happy to help.

Have a lovely weekend!

Hello,

We had a fabulous week in room 5!

We went to the library for the second time this week! Our library ‘day’ is Mondays, so please bring books back for Monday morning.

We had a beautiful fall walk and did some brainstorming and writing around the sights, smells, sounds, and feels that we experienced. We also made a beautiful piece of fall artwork called ‘Into the Woods’ and we learning about perspective drawing.

The end of this week got COLD, please make sure you are sending your child to school with a warm jacket and that they have indoor and outdoor appropriate shoes for the aggressive fall we have started experiencing. Hats and mitts are encouraged too, AND if there is any way you can get their name on those that would be fabulous.

THANK YOU to everyone who sent in the family tree assignments, we are kicking off our learning on those on Monday.

Just a reminder that Monday is Orange Shirt Day, if possible try and wear an orange shirt :)
